If I activate (or deactivate) the settings to show specific AutoBlocks in
one of my Custom Modules, AutoTheme "forgets" these settings when I call up
the Admin Page of this module again. For example:
Show block for this module:
Area1 - NO
Area2 - YES
Area3 - YES
Next time, I recall this page it shows:
Area1 - NO
Area2 - NO
Area3 - NO
I discovered, that the settings depend from the first setting using
AutoBlocks, i.e.:
Area1 - YES
Area2 - NO
Area3 - YES
Next time, I recall this page it shows:
Area1 - YES
Area2 - NO
Area3 - NO
-> AutoBlock Area3 takes the same settings like the AutoBlock in front
of Area3. This is the case for any AutoBlocks, no matter what name they
have.
"Normal" Blocks (i.e. left or right) don't show this behaviour. The
settings for these blocks are remembered when the Admin page is called up
again.
AutoTheme takes the setting for AutoBlocks and displays them correctely,
however the settings need to be activated again when the Admin page for a
Custom Page is called. |

Having seen this post, I am very dismayed after spending almost $40 odd to
purchase the commercial lisence of this program that I have not received a
response to my e-mail (sent on March 8, 2003) on this exact problem to
Shawn. There haven't even been any more follow up responses to this post
on this board either.
What's going on? I really do like this program, but when one purchases
software, one would expect decent support if the said software does not
work. I understand that the developer may be busy at work etc, but surely
ones customers are more important and should have immediate attention.
I am not ranting to upset anyone or offend anyone, I am merely pointing out
that business principles call for good business practice. Should I delete
this software from my server and get a full refund? I have sent this
message to this board as it seems as if posts here are answered to before
e-mail messages are.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. |

I believe I have isolated this issue and will release a patch today.
To Ingwa, I am assuming that you are Mark because that is the only email
from 3/8 that I could find regarding this issue. I missed that email, as
it was not sent to the email address that is specified in the AutoTheme 1.0
documentation and in the license file as the address to use for AutoTheme
1.0 support.
I believe that if you look around the forums and ask people who have
emailed autotheme@mckenzies.net with support requests, that support is
pretty darn good. Emails are answered within 24 hours, normally within
about 2 to 4 hours.
I apologize for any inconveniences and can assure you that all issues and
support requests are taken very seriously.
Thanks!
Shawn

Shawn,
Well, I must say that I am surprised. The last thing I expected was to see
an email in my inbox telling me that there was a response to my post on
this forum. You have proved me wrong.
You are right. I had not read the documentation fully to pick up on an
email address where responses are made within 24 hours and I apologize if
any offense was taken by this post.
As previously mentioned, I do like the software and was very surprised that
I had not received a response to my inquiry and I am very happy to see that
something is being done in this matter.
As a word to anyone else reading this particular issue, this piece of
software is definately worth it. You can customise practacally everyting
that is attached to the modules.php script so that it has it's own layout,
style, etc and I had purchased this software for the only specific reason
of tracking exactly where my users were going, not to customise the look
etc. Therefore, you can see how versatile this software is.
To Shawn, I really do appreciate your prompt response to my post. I have
also added the support email address to my address book should I come up
with any more problems. One suggestion that I would make however is that
when a person gets an email from a company/person containing installation
scripts etc, the first thing they are going to do when they have a problem
is to hit reply. They feel that this is the point of contact that they
should follow when something drastic happens. Therefore, please may I
suggest that you either change the email address that the program is
emailed from. Or have a readily available "Contact Us" link that only
"registered" users can view, or check the email address along with other
the usual addies that you check, or clearly mark the email message that
includes the attachments to state that the email address is only an
outgoing address and not an incomming one. Just suggestions for future
problems should they occur.
No, I am not upset. I am not trying to say that this program, or the
support does not live up to the money that has been spent. Actually, I am
more than happy to spend the money and to grit my teeth should something go
wrong because the module is pretty damn good. It's actually the best
module that I have found so far to add to my postnuke site. I am just so
sorry that I had to post something to the forum because I thought that I
was being ignored.
In future (including anyone that reads this), I'll be sure to read the
documentation fully, including taking note of email addresses that are
mentioned for the specific purpose of support. I was wrong for not
noticing the address. You can imagine how frustrating it can be to follow
all the steps to find something not working that you don't see all the
angles.
Once again this is a great program and thank you for developing it. You
have saved mine, and probably tons of other peoples time by developing this
program and therefore it is money well spent. I look forward to receiving
your update and I will certainly let you know should anything go wrong
again. Feel welcome to add me to your contact list should you develop any
more great proggies as I am a technophile and really like gadgets for my
website. Who knows, I may purchase them, I may not, but I do like to be in
the know and I like to try things out.
Best regards
Mark |

No problem Mark. Regardless of the reason, I apologize for the delay in
resolving this, but am glad that you like the app.
I have sent the three posters a patch to resolve this issue.
For everyone else, I will announce and post a patch shortly that resolves
this issue, several others and corrects some errors in the docs.
Thanks!

I'd love to get that patch too! I've been waiting for its release eagerly.
As far as I know, the settings resetting is the only bug I've found in
Autotheme 1. |

Shawn,
Is this patch out yet? It's starting to get a little annoying having to
turn my blocks back on every time I go to the config screen. Many thanks! |

Many apologies!
If you purchased AutoTheme as a registered/loggedin user, you now have an
AutoTheme 1.0 category in the Downloads sections. The update can be found
there.
If you were not registered/loggedin when you purchased AutoTheme, then
reply to your paypal receipt email or the AutoTheme license email and give
me your Spidean username and I will grant you access.
Thanks!

Shawn,
sorry I did not get back to you sooner. Things have been great since the
patch you released. As they say "no news is good news" so you can be
assured that I am still 100% satisfied with my purchase. Thankyou.
Please keep me posted to any new developments that you make, as well as any
upgrades to the great autotheme program. It really does what I need it to
do accurately and efficiently and without it I don't know what I would
do.
Regards,
Mark |
