the editor in 1.7b1 doesn't resolve themes/Spidean/images/. How can i rectify this?

I have been thinking on this, but you are correct, it won't resolve any commands. It's just like a normal editor (FrontPage, DreamWeaver, etc...)

I'll see what I can do in future vers.
